‘This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.’ Acts 1:11b
Bible reading: Zechariah 13:7-14:7 (Go to the Bible passage)
The Bible is extremely realistic. We read about tears, sadness and deep emotions, but not about false sentiments or squeamishness. In this passage it is stated plainly that two thirds of the Jewish people will be exterminated. We have spoken about this earlier this month; this is a brutal reality. It will not happen because it pleases God: after all, He takes no pleasure in the death of anyone (Ezekiel 18:32).
But soon Jesus will return, then His feet will stand on the mount of Olives. Then He will fight the nations that have not wanted to acknowledge God. And at His side will be those who have sought His righteousness, who recognized the time of God’s coming to them.
Those who have called upon His name in the misery of their lives, will be refined and tested like gold. No, the ones who are being tested will not have an easy life; they will be despised and hated. They will be blamed for standing in the way of progress. Indeed, they will be doing this, the spirit of this world is driving all mankind in a totally wrong direction.
But all who do not call upon the name of God will be fascinated by what the spirit of this world has to offer them: world-peace through power, worship of human knowledge, wealth at the cost of well-being.... But nothing will remain of all of this when Jesus comes and all the holy ones with Him. Then the truth will come into His light, even the truth of every human heart.
What a glorious Day for all His redeemed!
