‘If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God.’ 1 Peter 4:11a
Bible reading: 2 Timothy 3:12-17 (Go to the Bible passage)
When young people long to devote their lives to God’s service and to be leaders in the congregation, they will often be advised to study theology. After secondary school, in their desire to receive everything they need for the service of God in the church of Christ, they will listen to what various theologians want to teach them.
Paul tells Timothy, ‘But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of,’ and he adds, ‘because you know those from whom you learned it,’ (:14).
Unfortunately, young seminary students so often lack the ability to distinguish between spirits, because they do not 'know the Holy Scriptures from infancy'. Only a few are familiar with reading the bible with a prayerful heart, longing to understand the voice of God and to obey it. But - without knowing God’s voice - how will one ever truly know if one has been called by God for His service?
Jesus says, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead’ (Luke 16:31). Those who have not learned to submit themselves to Scriptural authority, will not receive a calling from God for His service! For how could anyone preach God's salvation to other people, without himself being ‘wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus’ (:15)? Anyone who is not familiar with the Scriptures, will never learn to understand the voice of God, and therefore never be able to speak words of God inside or outside the church of Christ.
