Is this not all too rigid, to divide people into the groups ‘righteous’ and ‘wicked’? No, these really are two kinds of people, but maybe we should call them ‘believers’ and ‘ungodly’. How many people who like to pass for righteous are actually ungodly, because they do not in their daily life ‘delight in the law of the Lord and meditate on His law day and night’?
Whoever is truly glad, genuinely happy to have God’s word - not to put it on the bookshelf, but to live by it and trough it - is ‘like a tree planted by streams of water…’
There are many people who do not experience any of this, and therefore they say it is not true. But these people do not know the rejoicing of the law. They regard the law - the word of God - as a burden. They say there is so much in it that – if taken seriously – would make it impossible to live a happy life!
Poor people who struggle with the law of God without knowing God Himself. God does not ask that of anyone! God first revealed Himself wonderfully to the people of Israel before He gave them His wise laws. And whoever attempts to get to know God by keeping His laws, has turned things upside down; at best he will get entangled in laws and rules. But who has come to know God through Jesus Christ, craves for His word and can no longer sit in the company of mockers.
Who allows God's word to penetrate his heart will be estranged from the mindset of this world and becomes an outsider on earth, like all witnesses of God that the Bible speaks about.
