‘On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up,’ 1 Corinthians 16:2a
Bible reading: Malachi 3:6-12 (Go to the Bible passage)
As long as we are not fully aware of the fact that God is Lord of our whole life, it is really no use to read this passage from the Bible for the deeper meaning will escape us. As long as we still admire the terrific chemical industries, that enable us to combat all kinds of plagues with insecticides, why should we even consider truly repenting before God? Did the people of Israel not likewise ask in surprise, ‘How are we to return?’
Let us, who say we serve God with a devoted heart, question ourselves earnestly if we are willing to obey Him, also in the giving of our tithes. Just make a rough calculation if the part of your abundance which you have given to the kingdom of God in the last few years was more or less than 10% of your income. If it was less than 10%, you immediately have the answer to the question why the floodgates of heaven seem closed!
But when we again will obey wholeheartedly - including in our giving - then the Lord will answer from heaven with great blessings. Then He will make us prosperous and it will be visible in the well-being of our family, and even in the well-being of our pets and the crops in the field. God does not ask our opinion about this, He asks for joyful obedience. Do this and He will give His blessings!
Let us express our gratitude to God by setting aside a sum of money on the first day of every week in keeping with our income as a thankful offering to Him, asking Him to what means it may serve.
