‘Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.’ Philippians 4:9
Bible reading: Isaiah 42:18-25 (Go to the Bible passage)
If we read the Bible regularly, with a devoted heart, we will find more and more how God wants to teach us by making His law great and glorious (:21).
But how many people are still enthralled when reading God’s word? Fewer and fewer… No wonder! Isaiah says, ‘You have seen many things, but you pay no attention; your ears are open, but you do not listen’ (:20).
We have lost the true peace of God, and so we desperately try to keep peace among ourselves and in our own hearts by pushing away all that is disturbing. But in this way God's peace will not return. ‘Which of you will listen to this or pay close attention in time to come?’ asks Isaiah (:23).
Why is it that the peace is gone and we feel threatened on all sides? Who or what is the cause for this? Are we ourselves not the reason, because we have sinned against Him, by not following His ways and not obeying His law? ‘So He poured out on them His burning anger, the violence of war. It enveloped them in flames, yet they did not understand; it consumed them, but they did not take it to heart’ (:25).
How stern are these words! Is there no deliverance?
Yes indeed, there is. ‘Hear, you deaf; look, you blind, and see!’ (:18). For all our blindness Jesus has taken upon Him as the Servant of the Lord (:19). Our blindness, our deafness He takes away?
Yes, if only we understand this call and take all His teachings to heart.
