‘And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.’ Romans 8:28
Bible reading: Exodus 1:22-2:10 (Go to the Bible passage)
Pharaoh of Egypt had ordered the Hebrew people that every boy that was born must be thrown into the river Nile. But a man of the tribe of Levi and his wife did not obey this godless order of the king: they hid their fine son for three months. Then - in blind faith in God – the mother placed the child in a papyrus basket and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile.
That mother had no idea what was going to happen next, but she did not have a spirit of timidity (2 Timothy 1:7). She sent her daughter to the Nile, to see what would happen. So she was not without expectations, not without hope!
God saved this little boy. Pharaoh’s daughter found the little child and named him Moses, and later she adopted him as her son. Probably, the mother of Moses was not very happy about this: she would have preferred to raise her son herself. But it was God’s intention that Moses would get a princely upbringing.
Afterwards, Moses could have stayed conveniently in the royal court, but he did not do so. He never forgot he was no Egyptian. When he was grown up, he went to see his people and he saw their distress. Then Moses gave in to his anger which made him a scared fugitive.
There in the desert, God molded him from prince of Egypt into His useful instrument. And when - after forty years - Moses was humbled and did no longer put his trust in his own strength, God could use Moses to free the people of Israel out of the land of slavery.
Are we willing to be transformed like Moses, so that God can use us to free slaves of sin?
