When we have entered the Kingdom of God by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, we become subjected to totally different laws than the laws of this world. Very clearly the same applied - and applies - to Israel. Moses said, ‘You are not to do as we do here today, everyone doing as they see fit’ (:8).
As soon as we cross the borders of God’s Kingdom by rebirth, we become subjected to the laws of His Kingdom.
Anyone who still wants to do ‘as he sees fit’, may speak about the kingdom of God, but has not yet crossed the border. Because we prefer meaningless talk about His Word instead of obedience to it, many of us experience so little of the safe refuge we may have in God and many suspect the Satan is stronger than God.
Why dares every boy pledge eternal loyalty to the girl he loves, and why do we promise our boss to do anything he will tell us, but do we refuse to obey God and dare we not make Him a single promise? The love to God gives us the confidence we will keep our promises!
Then we promise Him great vows, because we know that He Himself will accomplish everything through us. Then we believe that He will steady us, so that we will keep the vows we promised Him, under whatever circumstances. In this He does not stand far off, no, especially then He proves to be a loving Father Who ensures that we will not be disappointed in the fulfillment of our promises. Tenderly, He abides with us, if only we take ourselves seriously in this.
