'Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.’ John 16:24
Bible reading: 1 John 5:13-15 (Go to the Bible passage)
God has given us His word – us, who believe in the name of Jesus – so that, when we take in that word as bread for our hearts, we will know that we have eternal life.
Knowing this changes our whole life on earth. The things of this world become less important. We become more and more aware that the eternal things are way more important. It even turns out that the matters of this world do not become inferior, but different and often also more meaningful when we see them in the light of eternity. The worrying about how to manage everything diminishes, and therefore we can enjoy with a grateful heart everything God entrusts to us here on earth.
As soon as we become aware of eternal life, the passion for earthly things and the clinging to it start to fade away, and then comes a deep and quiet trust in our heavenly Father Who knows what we need. Then we are no longer on our own, but we become children of God, who desire to be entirely dependent on Him Who has everything in His hands.
We become familiar with Him through our daily relationship with Him, and we come to understand more and more what He wants. We start looking forward to the realization of His will and we desire to be His co-workers in this. We look up to Him expectantly and because we know He is with us, we know that whatever we will ask, He will give it to us, for it will be right what we ask. After all, the desire of our heart is to do His will, to walk with Him.
But how could we possibly walk with Him and do His will, if we have not first seen in the lives of others how wonderful this deeply dependent life with Him actually is?
