‘God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water,’ 1 Peter 3:20
Bible reading: Genesis 6:9-22 (Go to the Bible passage)
Can any of us be called righteous? Yet Noah could be called so, for it is written: ‘…and he walked faithfully with God’ (:9). Being righteous and blameless we cannot become by ourselves – not even by keeping all kinds of commandments – but only by walking with God. And Paul says that everyone who received Christ as Lord, should continue to live his life in Him: walk with Him faithfully (Colossians 2:6).
For, as it was in Noah's days, so it is now: the earth is corrupt in God’s sight. No, not in our sight. To us it is not so bad yet, it depends on how you look at it… But in God’s sight the earth is corrupt, for all the people on earth have corrupted their ways. Every way without communion with God is a corrupted way, though it may seem rather good in itself. Therefore the Bible says that God is going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of the willful people. And the terrible thing is that people still dare to say, ‘If God is a God of love, why does He still allow all this misery?’
God still allows it because of His patience, because He does not want anyone to perish. When the Holy God intervenes to do justice, no human will survive. That is why God sent His Son into this world to found His church as an ark to save many. Let us be aware of our calling to build His church with love and dedication, and to be built as living stones of the church of Christ - just as God commanded us (:22) - so that many will find refuge there and will be saved from this corrupt generation.
