'There is neither (…) male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.’ Galatians 3:28b
Bible reading: Genesis 3:8-15 (Go to the Bible passage)
How great was the creation of man! When God created mankind, He made them in the likeness of God. To God, the notion ‘great’ is so different from how we perceive it. God often shows Himself in small things, and thereby He makes them great.
Is it not wonderful that the Eternal One wants to walk with us humans? But when God walked in the garden in the cool of the day, Adam and Eve hid from the Lord God. Yet God looked for the people who were hiding from Him, and called to them, ‘Where are you?’ Already here - in the first pages of the Bible – we find the essential core of the gospel. And not only in this question we hear the gospel, but also in the promise of verse 15. Here God promised that once a Man would be born out of a woman Who would crush the head of the terrible deceiver, the Satan.
Comforted by this message Adam and Eve had to leave the garden of Eden, and their offspring was scattered all over the world. But the promise was not forgotten. Eve hoped she would give birth to this Son, and after her every woman hoped so. So among the peoples of the earth the notion was established that it was a disgrace for a woman if she did not have sons. Actually, all over the world this is still the same, except among the Christians. For they know, ‘to us a son is given!’ (Isaiah 9:6).
Therefore, in the church of Christ a man is not more valuable than a woman. After all, in the church of Christ we are all one in Christ. He came for us all - men and women, believers and heathens – into the world in that night.
