Gog, Meshek and Tubal were the descendants of Japheth, who moved farthest north. They disappeared between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, more or less present day Russia. The Bible says that they will be summoned to invade Israel, a land that has recovered from war (:8). They will attack a peaceful and unsuspecting people—all of them living without walls and without gates and bars (:11). They will think it was their own plan to attack Israel (:10), but they will not realize that God has given them over to a depraved mind, because they did not want to retain the knowledge of God. In their greed, they will want to plunder and loot the heritage of the Lord: Israel.
These things have not come to pass as yet. For Israel is not yet a land that has recovered from war; ever since the Second World War, it has been fighting to live in peace.
But the moment will come - when the people of Israel will be tired of battle, and they will not be able to resist any longer the increasing strength of the enemies around them - that they will start losing the battle. But then Jesus, the Messiah, will return on the Mount of Olives (Zechariah 14), and with the small number left of His people, He will reign in peace and justice for a period of a thousand years (Revelation 20:6).
But after that era of peace, those who have not bowed down before Him wholeheartedly, will be sucked in with the crowd wanting to rob Israel. On the mountains of Israel, all rebels against God will suffer defeat and they will be food to all kinds of carrion birds and to the wild animals.
How wonderful that, already now, we may love Jesus, Who will soon be the King of the universe!
