In this age of glorification of the intellect, many people are of the opinion that children cannot really believe. No, first they must have come to their senses.
But then we forget that Jesus called a little child and urged the sensible adults around Him to follow the example of this little child. ‘If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea’ (Matthew 18:6).
When we adults live by the reality of Christ, especially the little children will participate in this reality. To me, the faith of young children is often the real proof of the faith of their parents. Let all parents among us be aware that the most pure faith is received in childhood… or is corrupted then. Whoever truly lives with God does not have to worry about the faith of the children. Paul says that we - who have faith - are children of Abraham (Galatians 3:7), and that includes our children. That is, if we really follow in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had (Romans 4:12).
But let us also be aware of the fact that our blameless and pure children live among a warped and crooked generation (Philippians 2:14), a generation that is shockingly estranged from the true life with God. Although they may attend a Christian school, our children will be greatly oppressed from their youth when the reality of living with Jesus is not visible in the adults. But, nevertheless, God in His mercy will often cut them free from the cords of the wicked!
