‘Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord.’ Romans 12:11
Bible reading: Revelation 3:14-22 (Go to the Bible passage)
Though - fortunately - we do not exactly know how God will judge each person, sometimes the Bible allows us glimpses of this. In the passage of today, we read that by our deeds God knows who we are.
There are those who disregard God: they handle according to their own insights to benefit themselves and to take advantage of what life offers them as much as possible. Contrary to that, there are those who reckon with God and long to do His will: they do not seek their own profit, but wish to be co-workers of God for His coming Kingdom.
The former are the cold ones, the latter the hot ones. And between them we find a large group of people: the lukewarm. Those are the people who seek peace for their souls but are not willing to acknowledge Jesus as Lord.
They give everyone his share, after having made sure they have supplied themselves well first. They know how to speak pious words to make other people look up to them. Their knowledge of the Bible makes them so conceited that they love themselves and their own knowledge more than they love their Savior.
Jesus is standing outside the door of their lives, outside their community, and they do not miss Him or even hear Him knocking! For they are rich, they have acquired wealth and do not need a thing. But they do not realize that they are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked (:17).
They cosily chat about God’s love, without ever realizing that God spits them out of His mouth in disgust. They talk about God, without ever paying attention to the words that God speaks.
Hush, be quiet! Listen, He calls us by our name! Let us open the door of our heart for Him: ‘Come Lord, please enter!’
