‘For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you: Do not fear; I will help you.’ Isaiah 41:13
Bible reading: Joshua 1:1-9 (Go to the Bible passage)
After the death of Moses, God commanded Joshua to take possession of the Promised Land.
This was a very dangerous mission, for in order to take possession of the land, the nations that lived there had to be driven out. But the Lord promised He Himself would fight for Israel and He commanded Joshua to be strong and courageous. To make sure Joshua would not battle in his own strength, God commanded him to be careful to obey all the law. Joshua even had to meditate on it day and night. Why? Because then he would be well prepared to fight and to achieve his goal.
When we are born again through the Spirit of God, we will discover that all sorts of forces will mobilize against us and will try to infiltrate our minds in order to kill the new life. And if we did not put on the spiritual armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-20), we will definitely stumble and miss the target.
We must take possession of the land, the new life God has given us. This means: we must be eager for all our sins and bonds to be conquered in the Name of Jesus and to be subdued to Him. No striving for our own sanctity, but for a life in His honor, so that He may become visible in our lives.
And if it is our sole desire to glorify Him, we can be sure He will be with us. ‘And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age’ (Matthew 28:20). Jesus did not say this to leave us a comforting thought, no, He promised to confirm our life and work in this world by signs and wonders (Acts 4:30).
