When we realize that the coming of Jesus Christ on earth is the grace of God, then this may set us free from deeply ingrained systems of thought. For grace is not to be understood, it is only to be thankful for; it is not to be acquired by study, it is only to be accepted, simply as by children.
Those who receive the grace of God in this childlike manner are keenly aware of the fact that such an offer from God can never be intended for an exclusive group of people, but must be meant for the whole world. As Paul says, ‘that offers salvation to all people’.
If we live by this grace, our hearts will open wide for all those around us to let them share in this divine offer. And that is such a simple matter if only we do not make it complicated. For Paul says here very clearly that we do not need to teach others, but that God's grace teaches us all. This means that - if we as believers allow ourselves to be taught ‘to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions’ - we then will at long last open up to that most important thing, neglected to this very day: to bring along others around us to be likewise taught by Him!
If we stop lecturing our neighbors about the kingdom of God - thereby burdening them with things that have little or nothing to do with God - but instead show them how wonderful it is to be pupils of the most high God, then we will be delighted to see how God Himself purifies us together with others, and makes us ‘a people that are His very own’. Together with countless others we then will be ‘eager to do what is good’, not the good we ourselves devised to do, but the good He gives us to do for meaningfully building His kingdom.
